A screenshot of Microsoft Word's grammar checker flagging

Microsoft Word doesn’t always know best.

If you spend a lot of time in Microsoft Word or similar programs, you’ve probably come across them: those instances where spellcheck (or grammar check) gets it horribly, horribly wrong. Whether it’s completely mixing up its/it’s and you’re/your or suggesting substitutions that completely change the meaning or even the politics of a sentence, automated programs can’t always be trust. (Just one more reason to hire a professional editor.)

I’ve run across many of these wacky suggestions– so many that, for years, I’ve threatened to start a Tumblr devoted to them. Well, I’ve finally gone and done it. Check out Seriously, Spellcheck?— and don’t forget to email me your screenshots of spellcheck failure!
